Some authors who have published through the independent publishers have received recognition for their work, which also helps to boost the company.
For example the Florida Publishers Association awarded the 2011 gold medal in the category of Children's Fiction to The Adventures of Charlie Pierce: The Last Egret, by Harvey E. Oyer III. The book was published by Middle River Press.
Community outreach is a constant, says Borich. On March 18th, they will make a presentation about self-publishing at Well Read Inc. bookstore on 17th Street in Fort Lauderdale which will feature several authors, as well as editors and writers who work with them.

The drill down
Start from the beginning – how did you build your business ? We started out with the family history niche. With no budget for marketing, we gave presentations to genealogical societies and local historical societies. Since we both had careers in journalism, we built a network of writers, editors, photographers, and illustrators. Bruce had branched out into book and magazine production, and that provided us with a basis of quality printers. Together, it all formed the core of a professional team. We are developing a reputation for a quality product, especially locally.
