iMagination Station: Library opens new iMac lab

When Peggy Coghlan raised the first million dollars that started
the Longview Public Library 25 years ago, her motto was “a first
class library for a first class city.”
To a crowd of about 50 people Wednesday, Coghlan said the
library continues to support her original vision with the opening
of the iMac computer lab.
The library unveiled 23 iMac desktop computers, equipped with
software for patrons to practice graphic and Web design and video
editing, said Library Director Kara Spitz.
“We’ve always been first class and ahead of the technology
curve,” she said.
Spitz said she started thinking about adding Macintosh computers
to the library when her daughter started college and was required
to purchase one for class.
“We weren’t familiar with Macs, and I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it have
been great if there were some place to learn how to use them before
having to purchase one?’ ” Spitz said.
So when the Junior League approached the library to discuss
assisting them with a project, Spitz said the iMac lab was what she
had in mind.
