Despite the design flaw in the iPhone 4, it didn't hamper sales of the product, which flew off store shelves when it was first introduced.
The external antenna that caused the 'death grip' problem allowed the phone to be built slimmer than previous iPhones.
Adding a case or a bumper around the edge of the phone prevented the problems.
The successor, the iPhone 4S, doesn't suffer from the same issues.
Apple was slow to respond to criticism about the iPhone 4 and launched a press conference where founder Steve Jobs famously said that users were simply holding the device incorrectly.
The company later backtracked and offered customers free bumpers for a few weeks in 2010.
Rothken, the lawyer for the plaintiffs said the agreement with Apple should help remedy the problems that the 'death grip' caused for the remaining iPhone 4 users.
'We believe that the Apple iPhone 4 settlement is fair, adequate, and reasonable. We believe that it allows members of the class to choose, and they can get $15 of cash or a bumper, so we believe that type of choice is proportional to the circumstances,' he told CNET News.
