Barkley wins at Westminster again
A local dog won big last week at the 136th annual Westminster Kennel Club Show in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
One of the well-trained canine athletes who walked with grace and elegance at the esteemed dog show was 9-year-old Finish Spitz, Barkley, who was honored with the Best of Breed award for the fifth time at the Westminster Kennel Club Show.
Barkley is owned by Wolfforth residents Michelle Badger, owner of BadgerDen Kennel, and daughter Holly Leftwich, who is a professional show handler and shows Barkley in the ring.
“We first started showing him when he was about 6 months old,” Badger said. “The first time we went to Westminster was when he was about 18 months old.”
The Westminster Kennel Club Show, or America’s Dog Show, is not only one of the most prestigious dog shows in America, but is also the second longest continuously held sporting event in America, just one year behind the Kentucky Derby, according to the Westminster Kennel Club’s website.
