Ponta este pus într-o situaţie imposibilă. Dacă acceptă, se va afla în postura ridicolă de a cere, de două ori consecutiv, căderea propriului guvern – pentru a îndeplini o parte din condiţiile necesare declanşării anticipatelor. În plus, chiar şi câteva luni de guvernare Ponta, în condiţiile unei economii care merge destul de prost, ar pune sub semnul întrebării şansele USL de a câştiga alegerile parlamentare. Dacă Ponta refuză, apare din nou în în postura unui personaj ezitant, care fuge de responsabilităţi. Liderii social-democraţi au văzut capcana şi nu ştiu cum să scape de acest cartof fierbinte. Întrebat dacă acceptă varianta lui Antonescu, în cazul în care moţiunea trece de parlament, Ponta a răspuns sec: "O să discutăm în cadrul USL şi vă vom anunţa."
