WEST DES MOINES
Clive
Kindergarten students celebrated the 100th day of school Jan. 30 with 100 visitors. They also made the numerals of 100 hide. Children worked on their 100 in Disguise projects at home with their families. They wrote about what they would do with $100, what they would want 100 of, and practiced writing numbers to 100 using a number grid. The celebration culminated by making trail mix with 100 pieces of snacks and candy.
Crestview
Crestview students are currently in their dance unit for physical education. This year we are doing Dance Dance Revolution, Just Dance games, and some simple dances such as Line Dancing, Cha Cha Slide and The Cupid Shuffle. Each student is also going to learn a dance called the Interlude Dance. Invented at the University of Northern Iowa, this dance has spread across the country and even to our military personnel overseas.
Sixth-grade student Kaitlyn Derouin recently completed reading and tracking all 23 Iowa Childrens Choice award books. She chose Powerless by Matthew Cody as her favorite. Students reading Iowa Childrens Choice books complete trackers on each one they read, a short thought-provoking question to answer about the book. To date, five other students have also read this years collection.
