Gloucester Dog Park builders go for canine-inspired designs

One look at the plans for the Gloucester Dog Park, scheduled to be built across from Stage Fort Park in Gloucester, and it hardly brings to mind the words “art gallery.”
But that’s what some of the minds behind the Gloucester Dog Park are hoping to provide, tying art to the under-construction dog park. The hope is that the park itself can be a mix of function – an off-leash, fenced playground for small and large dogs alike – and form, with local artists providing dog-themed work to adorn the park, while also working in themes inherent to Gloucester and Cape Ann.
Christopher Lewis has been the driving force behind tying artists to the development of the park. A member of the Friends of Gloucester Dog Park Steering Committee, Lewis says a prime example of this concept mixing art, Cape Ann and dogs is the proposed motif for the park, created by local artist Chris Williams. Williams has a history of producing metal sculptures that feature animals (a prime example of his work is the octopus hanging above the sushi bar at Latitude 43)
