CHARLESTON, S,C. (WCIV) -- It's a new online advantage for Lowcountry small business, at a time when more than half of all South Carolina businesses do not have websites.
For many owners, it's because they don't know how to make one.
Local business owners got a crash course Tuesday on website design. With the help of Google, they learned how to create a site and build their business one page at a time.
Web design 101, a course critical to letting the Lowcountry economy thrive.
"I'm ready for my business to grow, it makes me feel like I'm a contender now," said Wanda Lopez.
Tuesday, Lopez joined other small businesses owners to learn what it takes to make a website. She specializes in writing grants for local non-profits. Until now, Lopez says she'd been unable to create an online presence.
"My biggest fear was because I always thought there was a lot involved in creating a web page," Lopez said. "I didn't think I had the skills to do that."
